’Dogs qualify 8 for state; Petersen, Roblee capture A-1 district crowns

NORFOLK — North Platte’s Dylan Petersen and Shawn Roblee captured district titles on Saturday as the Bulldogs finished fourth in the District A-1 Wrestling Tournament on Saturday in Norfolk.

Petersen earned a 4-2 win over Dante Todd of Grand Island to win the 132-pound title, while Roblee got the 152-pound crown when Lincoln Piux X’s Joe Nickman forfeited prior to the match starting.

"Dylan is winning a lot of tight matches," said North Platte head coach Dale Hall. "He’s been wrestling a long time. He’s just a sophomore, but he goes on the mat looking to win and he’s been doing it."

Grand Island won the team title with 191.5 points, followed by Papillion-LaVista with 159.5, Norfolk with 134.5, North Platte with 128, Lincoln Pius X with 117, Millard North with 70.5, Omaha Westside with 70 and Omaha Bryan with 19.

Aaron Houser finished second at 126 pounds for North Platte, losing 4-0 to Joey Perez of Papillion-LaVista in the final.

"This is a very tough tournament," Hall said. "If you place here, you can place at state.

"I’m very happy with the way we wrestled. All of the eight we have going wrestled well."

Other North Platte wrestlers to qualify for this week’s state tournament in Omaha are Alex Guerra, third at 106 pounds; Colton Thompson, fourth at 138 pounds; Austin Matthews, third at 145 pounds; Jobie Loving, third at 160 pounds; and Alex Morales, third at 285.

"Alex Guerra is really wrestling well," Hall said of his 106 pounder. "He beat a kid in the first round who pinned him earlier this season and avenged another loss in the consolation semifinals.

"Colton Thompson is in one of the toughest weight classes I’ve ever seen. He got caught in the third-place match, but I wouldn’t doubt the top four from this district at 138 pounds would be the four semifinalists at state."
