Five male teenagers were arrested early Sunday following a carjacking just east of 72nd Street and Crown Point Avenue.
Officer Michael Pecha, a police spokesman, said a 50-year-old Omaha woman noticed a group of youths as she was parking in an apartment complex shortly before 2 a.m.
One of them displayed a gun and took the victim’s cellphone and keys before fleeing with the other teens in the woman’s car.
Officers located the vehicle about 10 minutes later near 42nd Street and Redman Avenue. The driver fled and the car struck a light pole near 36th Street and Belvedere Boulevard.
Two suspects were arrested at the scene and three others were apprehended with assistance from a K-9 unit. The suspects, ranging in age from 15 to 19, face a variety of charges, including use of a weapon to commit a robbery and obstructing justice.
