This year's Taste of Home Cooking School will ignite a serious case of spring fever.
The event is heading to Omaha once again, and culinary specialist Guy Klinzing will be back to focus on the seasonal food of spring.
This year's event, sponsored by The World-Herald, will take place April 2 at the Embassy Suites La Vista. Klinzing will share step-by-step seasonal recipes, home-cooking tips and a few of his best tricks.
This year, the event will open at 3:30 p.m. and vendors will be on site with all sorts of samples.
Some of the participating businesses include Nothing Bundt Cakes, La Casa, Costco, Hiland Dairy, La Vista Keno and Husker Home Foods.
For those wanting to elevate their Taste of Home experience, VIP tickets will include a reserved seat right in front of the stage, a meet-and-greet with Klinzig before the event, a special swag bag that includes the Warren Buffett book "The Oracle & Omaha" and a drink ticket good for a glass of wine, a beer, a soda or a signature drink. Deluxe VIP tickets also include a Taste of Home-inspired dinner buffet that Embassy Suites will offer during the event.
The buffet will have salad, a hot entrée, dessert and choice of drink, including beer, wine, soda or a signature cocktail. Snacks will also be available for purchase. The dinner is $18 for nondeluxe VIP ticket holders and runs from 4-6 p.m.
The cooking school — the evening's main event — begins at 7 p.m. Klinzing, who has a degree in performing arts and a background in the food industry, will demonstrate 10 recipes in a lively, music-filled show that offers lots of practical tips for home cooks. The demonstration is broadcast on big screens so everyone in the arena can see.
Attendees receive a gift bag at the event that includes the Taste of Home Cooking School magazine, which includes recipes featured during the program as well as coupons from participating national food companies. Attendees can also enter for a chance to win one of many door prizes, including the recipes created onstage that night.
Tickets go on sale Monday. Visit Omaha.com/TasteofHome for ticket information. Seating is limited at the show. For more information on the Taste of Home Cooking School, visit TasteofHome.com/Cooking-Schools.
