Police in Denver on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with a 2010 homicide in Omaha.
Dellshawn Evans, an Omaha resident, was charged in a warrant Monday in Douglas County Court with first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to Nebraska Department of Corrections records, Evans was sentenced to two to three in prison in 2011 for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was released in 2012.
Evans is accused of fatally shooting James L. Dancer, 38, on Feb. 9, 2010. Police were called to a home near 61st Avenue and Jaynes Street, where they located Dancer dead from gunshot wounds.
Dancer had an arrest record, including several for possession of marijuana. He had served seven days in jail in 1996 for assault and battery.
At the time of his death, Dancer was due in court for a preliminary hearing in March 2010 on a charge of felony theft by deception, a charge that stemmed from a 2006 incident.
