LINCOLN — Democrat James Bowers has filed as a candidate for the Nebraska Legislature in District 46, which encompasses northern Lincoln.
The seat is currently occupied by Sen. Danielle Conrad, a Democrat who is leaving office because of term limits. The other announced candidate in the nonpartisan race is Democrat Adam Morfeld, a Lincoln attorney.
Bowers, a Lincoln native, currently works for the nonprofit Nebraska Children and Families Foundation. He previously performed social work through a child welfare agency and served on the board of Fresh Start women’s shelter.
In a press release, Bowers said, if elected, he will focus on education. He said he plans to be a strong advocate for an effective child welfare system.
“My professional experiences in working with children and families have put me in a unique position to represent their needs through the public policy process,” Bowers said.
