Nebraska's free-fall to the bottom of the Big Ten men's basketball standings is complete. The Huskers' 67-51 loss Saturday at longtime league doormat Penn State dropped NU into a tie for last place with PSU at 3-10. Nebraska (11-13, 3-10) had early leads of 6-3 and 11-9 behind four points each from Toney McCray and Caleb Walker.

The Huskers play at Penn State on Saturday needing to beat the Nittany Lions for a second time this season to avoid joining them in the Big Ten men's basketball cellar. "It's pretty tough," said the fifth-year player from Missouri City, Texas. "Nobody likes losing. Losing is hard, especially when you don't think you're outmatched talent-wise."

It's the best possible identity crisis for Nebraska wrestler James Green. Nearing the end of his freshman season, the 157-pounder looks back at the kid who arrived in Lincoln last summer. He could recognize his picture in the NU media guide. Little else, however, is the same. "It's not even close," he said. "That James Green in the summer is a stranger compared to now. It's been a long ride, but it's a lot different, a lot better."

Seventeen straight missed shots. And 28 rim-outs, bricks and whiffs out of 37 3-point attempts. The No. 13 Nebraska women's basketball team couldn't throw it in several oceans in a 63-52 loss to Michigan Thursday night. But NU coach Connie Yori wants her Huskers to take those shots again. And again. And again. That's what the Wolverines' man-to-man defense — a regiment packed so tightly in the paint it resembled a 2-3 zone from the cheap seats — offered.

But shortly before one of the most popular races at the Frank Sevigne Invitational, he found out he'd be running the anchor leg. And there's always, he said, a "love-hate relationship" with that spot. Exhilarating. But pressure-packed.

A smattering of boos after scoring 15 points in the first half. Catcalls from the bleacher seats of, “Just shoot the ball!” Fans from the crowd of 7,019 — the seventh-smallest for a home conference game — walking to the Devaney Center exits with 10 minutes to play. Altogether Wednesday, it was just another long night for Nebraska men's basketball around a 62-46 loss to No. 22 Michigan that could have been much worse.
