Hegge, USD hold Mavs to season-low point output
Amber Hegge, a Crofton, Neb., native, scored 14 points as South Dakota handed the University of Nebraska at Omaha a 58-38 loss Tuesday. The Mavericks (13-11) scored eight points in the first half, finishing with their lowest scoring output and shooting percentage (23.2 percent) of the season. South Dakota (16-6) didn’t fare much better, shooting 28.2 percent overall and 3 of 27 from 3-point range.

After being limited to 30 games last season because of injury, the Orland Park, Ill., native started this season with 14 goals in 15 games. The 6-foot, 170-pound junior forward had a 12-game goal-scoring drought before breaking through for two more goals in Saturday's 6-4 loss to Bemidji State.

Mavs glad to be busy and adding victories
None of the University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball players is tired — or tired of winning after Sunday's 79-68 victory against Doane gave the Mavericks their third win in five days. The 10-15 Mavs shot 50 percent for much of the game while steadily pulling away in front of 179 at Sapp Fieldhouse. The game was rescheduled from Saturday, when it was postponed by the snowstorm.

Bemidji State breaks out for win
Just what you least expected. Not only did UNO get into a high-scoring affair with Bemidji State, it was the low-scoring Beavers who emerged with a 6-4 victory Saturday night before 6,878 at CenturyLink Center, capping a series in which UNO managed to pick up only one point against a team that has become its nemesis.

UNO's Laidley wins at Wichita State meet
UNO's Kathie-Lee Laidley set the meet record on her way to winning the high jump at the Varsity Apartments Invitational on Saturday at Wichita State. Laidley had a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches, as season best for the sophomore who also owns the school record (5-10). Sami Spenner took second in the triple jump on a tiebreaker after a jump of 39-6. Amanda Vorthman was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:00.93, just 1.6 seconds behind winner Emily Koenig of Texas-Arlington.
