Kelly: After 6 big sports events, Omaha no longer 'best-kept secret'
The U.S. Senior Open golf championships that concluded Sunday wrapped up a remarkable run for a midsize city: Sixteen months, six national sports events — a stretch that drew more than 1.1 million attendees and created 46 days or nights of national TV coverage from Omaha.

Notes: Double duty possible for NBC’s Koch
If NBC Sports needs to find someone to occupy Gary Koch’s chair this weekend, it’s fine by him. “The plan is hopefully to play well enough to where I don’t have to do much TV work. We’ll see how that goes,” said Koch, who’s in the Senior Open field for the first time since 2003 after advancing through...

Rice's Aquino wins College Home Run Derby
When Rice's Michael Aquino came for batting practice at the College Home Run Derby, seeing the other seven competitors hit made him a little uneasy. “I just got scared, honestly, because these guys were hitting them out of the stadium,” Aquino said. “I said, 'Well, at least it's not a distance contest.'”

Sluggers ready for challenge at College Home Run Derby
After UCLA won the College World Series last week, Bruins fans left happy and cheering. But Omaha fans may have felt a little empty inside. Or, at least, the ones in the outfield stands. Only three home runs were hit throughout the CWS, but Wednesday's College Home Run Derby aims to rectify the power outage at TD Ameritrade Park.

Pivovar: 2013 CWS proved lacking in both runs and drama
The 2013 series is in the book, and never have so many seen so little at the CWS. The 14 games drew a record turnout of 341,483, including what seemed like half the state of Mississippi for the best-of-three championship series. What the folks witnessed was one of the least compelling series in recent memory. There were plenty of close games...

Shatel: Bruins make big statement in small-ball CWS
This one was the Warning Track Series. Time and again, we heard the explosion of bat on ball, looked up and saw the ball soaring toward the bleachers and history, followed by the exhale of disappointment. Caught. That moment when the ball falls helplessly into an outfielder's glove, that's the perfect metaphor for the 2013 College World Series.
