The Omaha area has been dubbed a leader in a national trend for smoke-free apartment listings, according to the National Apartment Association.
Omaha ranked No. 2 behind Chicago for the highest percentage of smoke-free apartments, based on listings in a recent Apartment Guide.
Behind Omaha, the national association’s magazine mentioned Oklahoma City, Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., Phoenix, Philadelphia, Columbus, Ohio, Atlanta and Virginia Beach, Va.
A press release from the Douglas County Health Department said its "Putting Prevention to Work" unit has joined forces with the Metro Omaha Tobacco Action Coalition to increase the number of apartments offering smoke-free options. The department provides technical assistance to landlords who want to offer these options.
