Bellevue East High School announced on March 4 that University of Nebraska-Kearney standout, Matt Malcom will be the new head wrestling coach.
Longtime Chieftain wrestling coach Todd Porter is retiring at the end of the year after 24-years of coaching at Bellevue East.
In 22 of the 24 years, Bellevue East had a winning record and 12 top-10 finishes.
Malcom's resume speaks for itself: four-time All-American, 2019 National Champion, four-time NWCA All-Academic wrestler, four-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll, career record of 95-23 with 24 major decisions, 25 tech falls and 16 falls.
Prior to UNK, Malcom spent a redshirt year at the University of Iowa in the 2016-2017 season and went 19-5 in open tournaments.
Malcom went to Glenwood High School in Iowa and holds the school record for wins, falls and takedowns in a career and was the 2016 Class 2A state champ at 152-pounds.
