DENTON, Texas — An unearned run in the top of the eighth inning gave Creighton a 5-4 victory over North Texas on Sunday during the final day of the North Texas Invitational.

Earlier in the day, Sam Houston defeated the Bluejays 7-3.

Creighton, which had lost 11-1 to North Texas on Saturday, trailed 4-3 before Aujanae McCoy scored on a sacrifice fly by Allie Reinhart in the top of the fifth.

The game stayed tied until the Bluejays came up with the winning run in the eighth. Blake Ringle scored when Bry Flanagan reached on an error by North Texas’ center fielder.

Ringle also had hit a two-run home run in the fourth. Creighton also got two hits apiece from Jen Daro and Anna O’Gorman.

Sydnee Eck threw a complete game to improve to 5-3. She held North Texas scoreless over the final four innings.

In the earlier loss, Sam Houston scored three runs in the first and second innings on its way past Creighton.

Creighton finished with eight hits, getting two apiece from McCoy and Reinhart. Micaela Whitney was tagged with the loss as she allowed four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Creighton next will play in the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The Jays’ first game there will be at 8 a.m. Saturday against Sacred Heart.
