OFFENSE

STARTERS

QB: Cam Newton

The league MVP enjoyed his best season as a pro, throwing for 3,837 yards and 35 TDs while running for 636 and 10 TDs. He had never accounted for more than 35 TDs in a season before this year.

RB: Jonathan Stewart

After having one 1,000-yard rushing season in his first seven years as a pro, he gained 989 yards in 13 games this season. He finished eighth in the NFL in rushing yards.

FB: Mike Tolbert

While he paves the way for Stewart, Tolbert also rushed for 256 yards, caught 18 passes and accounted for four touchdowns this season. He's played in the NFL since 2008.

WR: Ted Ginn Jr.

After eight underwhelming years in the NFL, he's had his best season as a pro, catching 44 passes for 739 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had 11 TD catches in his first eight seasons.

WR: Philly Brown

He had 31 catches for 447 yards and four TDs in the regular season, then caught an 86-yard TD pass in NFC title game. His longest catch before that was 39 yards.

TE: Greg Olsen

He's become a favorite target in Carolina, averaging 76 receptions the past four seasons. He had 77 catches this season for a career-best 1,104 yards.

LT: Michael Oher

Lineman featured in the 2009 movie "The Blind Side," he started every game during his first season with the Panthers.

LG: Andrew Norwell

After being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Panthers in 2014, the former Ohio State lineman has made 22 regular-season starts in his first two seasons.

C: Ryan Kalil

He's in his ninth seasons with the Panthers, who drafted him out of USC in 2007. Kalil has been selected to the Pro Bowl five times.

RG: Trai Turner

In his second season out of LSU, he started every game this season and was selected to his first Pro Bowl.

RT: Mike Remmers

He was with five NFL organizations from 2012 to 2014 before landing in Carolina. The Oregon State product didn't have any scholarship offers coming out of high school.

KEY BACKUPS

RB: Fozzy Whittaker

He rushed 25 times for 108 yards and a touchdown during the regular season. He's also the team's main kickoff returner.

WR: Devin Funchess

The rookie out of Michigan had 31 catches for 473 yards in the regular season. He's one of five Panther receivers with at least 30 receptions.

WR: Jerricho Cotchery

The 12-year veteran was third on the team with 39 catches for 485 yards and three touchdowns. This is his second season in Carolina.

DEFENSE

STARTERS

DE: Charles Johnson

He's played all nine of his NFL seasons with Carolina after being drafted in 2007. A hamstring injury caused him to miss eight games in the middle of the regular season.

DT: Star Lotulelei

The Tonga native has started since he was drafted out of Utah by the Panthers three years ago. He missed the first two games this year because of offseason foot surgery.

DT: Kawann Short

A breakout season for the third-year pro from Purdue. In his first season as a full-time starter, he had 11 sacks in the regular season and was named to his first Pro Bowl.

DE: Jared Allen

Traded to Carolina from Chicago in late September, the 12-year vet had two sacks this season. He didn't play in NFC title game because of a broken bone in his foot but is ready for the Super Bowl.

OLB: Shaq Thompson

Rookie from Washington started 10 games in regular season. He also was taken in 18th round of 2012 MLB draft and played at rookie level that summer before giving up baseball.

MLB: Luke Kuechly

Standout of Carolina's defense has recorded at least 115 tackles in each of his four seasons in the NFL. He has returned interceptions for TDs in the past two playoff games.

OLB: Thomas Davis

Despite breaking his arm in the NFC title game, Davis plans to play in the Super Bowl. He's in his 11th year in the league, all with the Panthers.

CB: Robert McClain

He's filling in after Charles Tillman tore his ACL during the regular-season finale. McClain started the season with the Patriots but was cut at the end of training camp.

CB: Josh Norman

In his first full season as a starter, he's gotten a reputation as one of the league's toughest corners. He has a career-best four interceptions this season.

SS: Roman Harper

He's in his second season in Carolina after leaving New Orleans with a Super Bowl win. He has started every game and recorded 73 tackles this season.

FS: Kurt Coleman

In his first season with Carolina — he played for the Chiefs in 2014 — he had seven interceptions and 90 tackles in the regular season. He had two picks in the NFC title game.

KEY BACKUPS

DE: Kony Ealy

Former Missouri Tiger started nine games this season, finishing with 32 tackles and five sacks.

LB: A.J. Klein

In his third season, he made six starts and 55 tackles in the regular season. He'll be the 13th former Iowa State player to participate in a Super Bowl.

CB: Cortland Finnegan

The 32-year-old came out of retirement when he signed with Carolina in late November. In the playoffs, he had an interception against Seattle and four tackles vs. Arizona.

SPECIAL TEAMS

PK: Graham Gano

Hewas 30 of 36 on field goal attempts and scored 146 points this season, breaking the Panthers' single-season scoring record set by John Kasay in 1996.

P: Brad Nortman

The former Wisconsin Badger is in his fourth season with the Panthers. He averaged 45.4 yards per punt and had an average net of 39.8.

RS: Ted Ginn Jr.

He returned 27 punts on the season, averaging 10.3 yards per return. The Panthers haven't returned a kickoff or punt for a touchdown this season.
