"BEST OF FRIENDS, " a romantic comedy full of twists and turns, is the first offering of the year at the Bellevue Little Theater.

The play, directed by Emma Rasmussen, is the story of Archer Connaught, an author who deserted his wife and children years before. Even so, they're shocked when they hear that he has died, and even more shocked when he shows up at wife Kate's doorstep.

Seems Arthur wants to marry his young fiancee, but he must obtain a divorce first. Kate, however, reveals that she and Arthur were never legally married.

The path toward resolution is funny — and it holds some lessons. And this play is definitely aimed at adults.

Catharine DeLuca plays Kate and Brian Witcher is Arthur in the Bellevue Little Theater show, premiering Friday and running on weekends through Feb. 28. Others in the play include Marcus Benzel, Amanda Overfield, Janet Macklin, Alexander Hamilton, Angela Fick, Melissa Jarecke and Tom Steffes.

Theater officials hope patrons make the play a Valentine's Day destination. Couples can get $2 off one ticket on Sunday.
