A man on Friday afternoon broke into a downtown Omaha data center before he launched off a security barrier in a stolen vehicle as officers followed, police said.

The suspect, 21, had broken a window and entered the First National Bank Data Center at 201 N. 16th St., police said. Officers saw the man leave the building and chased him, at which point one of the officers fell and was injured, a police spokeswoman said.

The suspect stole a vehicle from a parking lot and drove down a ramp and toward an off-duty Nebraska State Patrol trooper working for First National. The trooper was not injured, the spokeswoman said.

The suspect drove through an arm gate by using an in-ground security barrier as a ramp. The vehicle was significantly damaged and a pursuit ended shortly after in Carter Lake.

The suspect was booked on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief, flight to avoid arrest, assault on an officer, attempted assault on an officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer and trespassing.
