SMOKE, BUT NO FIRE

For a while they worked — that is, the smoke machines used during introductions for each weight class. But they were unplugged several bouts into the finals when one malfunctioned.

QUICK WORK

Alex Cloyd of Millard South picked up his state-record 50th pin of the season, needing 68 seconds to get the best of Omaha Creighton Prep's Nick Pray at Class A 220.

57 AND COUNTING

North Bend freshman Zach Borer set the state record for wins in a season Saturday with 57 — and he's not done. He could get to 60 next Saturday at the state dual championship in Grand Island.

BEST CROWDS IN A DECADE

Good weather and goodmatchups seem to be factors in attendance hitting a 10-year high, topped only by the 2006meet that was the first at the CenturyLink Center. The unofficial total was 45,546, including 11,440 for the finals.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I want to thank all my coaches for staying with me because I've been a prima donna all my life. I've made it. I've accomplished all my goals." — four-time champion Isaac DeLoa of Millard South
