The owners of downtown’s Block 16 have plans to double the size of their restaurant and open the Supper Club at Block 16 this spring.
“We love what we are doing at Block 16, and we have a passion for this place,” said Jessica Joyce Urban, who runs Block 16 with her husband, Paul. “But we also have a passion for plated dinners and different techniques that you can’t serve on a bun, or that we don’t want to serve on a bun.”
The Supper Club at Block 16 will be in the bay immediately to the east of Block 16, 1611 Farnam St. The new wing of the restaurant will be connected by a door and will add an additional 38 seats, most at a 24-foot-long communal table the couple plan to use for dinner service. Joyce Urban said the look of the new space will be more open and airy than the original restaurant, with reclaimed wood floors and a “classier” style.
During the restaurant’s busy lunch hour, the additional space will provide extra seating. It will also be available for private parties, and the Urbans have already lined up a number of pop-up dinners to take place in the east bay.
The dinner menu in the Supper Club won’t be the same as what’s served in the original space. Instead, the Urbans are planning large-format, family-style meals with different themes.
Block 16 will be closed starting Feb. 28 for demolition and construction and reopen March 6. The east bay should be done soon after, Paul Urban said.
