It’s time to set the mood. Instead of putting on some old Barry White CD or searching Spotify for a poorly sequenced playlist of supposedly classic love songs, let us help by suggesting one of these new tunes.

When you’re setting the table for that intimate dinner or figuring out the perfect scene for the Valentine’s Day gift exchange, kick things off with one of these.

Even better, lean in close and whisper to your significant other that the love song you picked always makes you think of them.

Thank us later.

“Die a Happy Man,” Thomas Rhett

It’s straightforward: He loves her with everything he has. No, I’m not crying. Just something in my eye...

“Coffee,” Miguel

This is some cheesy stuff, but Miguel doesn’t care. He wants to watch you sleep, remember the smell of your hair and have coffee in the morning. There is no room for shame in this song.

“Want to Want Me,” Jason Derulo

He’s into her, but it’s up to her. (It helps that this song has the most infectious chorus of all time. Yes, of all time.)

“Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” Meghan Trainor and John Legend

A real showcase for Trainor’s talents that adds the incredibly smooth Legend into the mix makes for a hot duet. Wow.

“Run Away With Me,” Carly Rae Jepsen

A song dripping with teenage infatuation, saxophone and synths really brings us back. There’s a lot more to Jepsen than “Call Me Maybe.”
