Nebraska scored the final 10 points of the first half to take a 24-23 lead to the break at the Capital One Bowl.

Brett Maher kicked a 39-yard field goal as Nebraska pulled within 23-17 midway through the second quarter. The Huskers then followed with a six-play, 76-yard scoring drive that Taylor Martinez capped with a 16-yard touchdown pass to I-back Rex Burkhead with 4:43 left before the half.

Burkhead finished the first half with 69 yards rushing on nine carries and a team-high four receptions for 39 yards.

The Nebraska defense caused problems for Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray in the first half. Take out a 75-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and the junior was 10 of 22 for 120 yards with two interceptions in the opening 30 minutes.

Georgia did, however, go to halftime with 318 total yards.

Some other second-quarter notes:

>> Georgia freshman Todd Gurley led all rushers in the first half, carrying 10 times for 81 yards.

>> After going penalty-free through the first quarter, Georgia was flagged five times for 46 yards in the second.

>> Jarvis Jones was credited with a sack when his pressure on Martinez forced a intentional grounding call on the Huskers’ last possession. That gave the linebacker two sacks for the game and 14 1/2 on the season.

>> Both kickers missed first-half field goals.
