Laura Shiffermiller has resigned as executive director of Fontenelle Forest, effective Oct. 21, the forest’s board of directors announced Thursday.

Tad Leeper, formerly of the Omaha Public Power District, will serve as interim executive director while the board seeks a replacement. The board has indicated it will conduct a national search.

Shiffermiller served as executive director for the past five years, previously serving as the forest’s development director. During her time as executive director, annual attendance at the Bellevue location rose to 100,000 for the first time in the forest’s history. She also led efforts to take over the state organization of Raptor Recovery.

Shiffermiller in a press release called it a privilege over the past 12 years to help shape the forest’s growth and vision for the future. “Fontenelle Forest is an amazing asset in our community, state and region.”
