ASHLAND, Neb. — The force will be with Ashland when members of the 501st Legion invade the area next Saturday.
The 501st Legion of Stormtroopers is an international “Star Wars” costuming organization that participates in community events and raises money for charity across the world. Its Central Garrison chapter, which encompasses Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota, will hold its annual Garrison Banquet at Mahoney State Park near Ashland on Aug. 22.
Because the members are going to be in the area, they will also come into Ashland to promote their favorite movie franchise.
Christopher Bradley of Gretna, a member of the Central Garrison who works at Linoma Software in Ashland, organized a parade of “Star Wars” bad guys, including Stormtroopers, Darth Vaders and Boba Fetts that will march down Silver Street starting at 23rd Street and ending at the Ashland Community Resource Center, where they will pose for pictures with fans.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. and is expected to last about a half an hour. The “Star Wars” characters will remain at the center for 60 to 90 minutes. Organizers expect about 40 members of the Central Garrison to march in the Ashland parade.
The 501st Legion was formed in 1997; today, more than 7,000 men and women have joined across the world to celebrate their love of all things “Star Wars.”
