COUNCIL BLUFFS — In 2011, 74.5 percent of Iowa's infants were breast-fed at birth, according to the Iowa Newborn Metabolic Screening Profile Feeding Report. In Pottawattamie County, the percentage was 67.9 percent.

In conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week, FAMILY Inc. and Pottawattamie County WIC will hold the second Council Bluffs Breastfeeding Resource Fair, a free educational event for new and expecting mothers and their families.

The fair runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lied Recreation Complex at Iowa School for the Deaf, 3501 Harry Langdon Blvd.

The event will feature booths from several local organizations, including Lutheran Family Services and Cooking Matters. Lactation consultants from Alegent Creighton Health and Methodist Hospital will also be available to help mothers and infants get a good start with breastfeeding.
