Walk more. It's the simplest health (and weight loss) advice there is. It's also the most overlooked. Do you reach the daily recommended step count of 10,000 steps? Most women in the U.S. don't even hit half of that goal. But there are plenty of easy ways to boost your step count.

Take calls on the move

Why sit at your desk and chat when you could get some fresh air and extra steps? Even if you just have time to make it around the block a few times before you have to hang up, you'll add at least 1,000 steps. One block is about 200 steps on average.

Take the long way

How many times during the day do you get up from your desk to refill your water bottle or go to the restroom? Next time you do, take the long way. And park in the back, rather than right next to the door. You may only add a few seconds to your trip, but your step count will continue to climb.

Pace while you wait

There are so many daily tasks we do standing still. Move around during these tasks, and those steps will add up. Pace while you brush your teeth. In those two minutes, you'll add up to 240 steps. Pace while you wait for the elevator, your lunch order, the valet _ anywhere, really.

Avoid elevators and escalators

Take the stairs. Every minute you spend climbing stairs can add up to 270 steps. Standing in an elevator won't help your count at all. Avoid escalators and elevators, and you'll start racking up the steps.

Take your lunch break

Here's a novel idea: Take your lunch break. Grab your lunch and walk to more scenic location to eat it. Even if you need to eat at your desk, find another time during the day when you can step away from your desk and go for a walk. Twenty minutes of brisk walking will knock out 2,000 extra steps.
