The state's first flu-related death of the 2015-16 season was reported Thursday by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
The agency described the victim as a "young child" who was in the eastern Nebraska area of the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department. The child also spent time in the Three Rivers Public Health Department's coverage area, also in eastern Nebraska.
Tests showed that a flu virus contributed to the death, but the child also tested positive for other respiratory viruses, the agency said. Authorities declined to cite the child's gender or say how old the child was.
Iowa has reported nine flu-related deaths this season. Nationwide, 13 children have died from flu this season, the agency reported.
