The stars and city lights won't be the only thing lighting up downtown Omaha Saturday night.
The Glow Run 5K, a national racing series, is Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Each runner will wear glowing gear, including a T-shirt and accessories provided by the organizers. The 3.1-mile race features several “glow zones” with black lights, lasers and music.
More than 4,000 people are registered, roughly a 33 percent increase from last year's inaugural event. The race sold out earlier this week.
“5Ks are popular right now,” said race director Caitlin Patrick. “It's the new thing. And the fact that it's at night and involves neon colors and glowing colors, it's a fun event...even for beginners.”
The route loops through downtown Omaha. There will be a DJ and Lucky Bucket beer for sale at the after-party.
Patrick said the Glow Run will return to Omaha next summer but the route might change.
Lincoln hosted the Glow Run in May. Around 2,000 people participated.
