Omaha Area Youth Orchestras is starting its 55th year under new leadership.

Rana Scarlett-Johnson has been named managing director, and Abby Bogenrief is the new director of orchestra activities. Both begin their new duties this month.

She replaces Jan Braden, who left after 20 years with OAYO. Braden is director of music at St. John Lutheran Church in Bennington.

Bogenrief, who has a degree in trumpet performance from the University of Northern Iowa, was youth orchestra administrator for the South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestras. She was interim stage manager, operations manager and youth orchestra assistant for the South Dakota Symphony.

She replaces Hannah Mayer, who will begin graduate school this fall.
