First ever Global Kids Fashion Week

First ever Global Kids Fashion Week

It’s “Fashion Week” season. It started in New York in early February and has continued on in major cities around the world week after week.

In fact, Fashion Week just got underway this past weekend in Japan. While the designers are showing everything from a phoenix-themed collection that clothed Lady Gaga to clothing with traditional Mongolian decorations, Japanese Fashion Week has firmly set its sights on the huge Asian market.

But one kidswear retailer has decided another segment of the world population has been underserved when it comes to major fashion. AlexandAlexa.com has launched the first ever Global Kids’ Fashion Week (GKFW) at London’s Freemason’s Hall this week.

The invitation-only event (mine must’ve been lost in the mail!) was attended by models, starlets, the fashion elite and their brood. It’s reported there were as many tots in the audience as there were on the runway the first day of the show.

At show’s end, the coming trends for the fall/winter 2013 collections, as well as a consumer show for current spring/summer 2013 trends, will have been covered. Featured designers include the likes of Kenzo, Roberto Cavalli, Oscar de La Renta, Billie Bush, Mini A Ture and Issosy.

Tuesday’s show was complete with after party, which was a room transformed into a children’s playland. It contained a giant bubble machine, manicure bar for little fingers, a photo booth, a DJ and a popcorn vendor. I don’t know about you, but it sounds better than the adult after parties to me!

Alex Theophanous, founder of AlexandAlexa.com, explained, “The time felt right to launch GKFW this year, to showcase children’s fashion in its own right and celebrate this thriving industry.”

With mainline designers, like Stella McCartney and Chloe, launching new kidswear lines year after year, I’d say Theophanous is right.
