LINCOLN — Six meet records and two all-time Top 10 performances in the girls 100-yard butterfly Friday were the top swims of the prelims at the Heartland Conference championship meet at Lincoln Southeast.
Lincoln Southwest juniors Olivia Calegan and Clara Walstad debuted on The World-Herald’s all-time 100 butterfly chart. Calegan touched first in 54.86 to land at No. 2 all-time, just 0.03 seconds behind the state record of 54.83 set by Dana Posthuma of Omaha Burke in 2015.
Walstad finished second in 56.50 to join the all-time list at No. 9, one spot behind a third Southwest swimmer — Dannie Dilsaver — who made the list earlier this season at 56.46.
A third swimmer competing at a triangular meet at Elkhorn’s Common Ground pool also made her debut on the 100 fly all-time list. Lincoln Pius X sophomore Caroline Theil won the 100 fly in 55.52 to join the all-time list at No. 4.
Calegan also set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke by winning in 1:02.58, just 0.04 seconds off her state record time from 2015. Dilsaver set a meet record in the 500 freestyle in 5:01.20, not far off her personal best of 5:00.41, which ranks her No. 3 all-time.
Southwest’s 200 medley relay team of Walstad, Anna Heinrich, Kaitlyn Witt and Calegan also set a meet record by winning in 1:46.25.
Grand Island junior Matthew Novinski topped two of his meet records from 2015 by winning the boys 10 butterfly in 50.90 and the 100 backstroke in 49.57.
The top eight finishers in each event qualified for finals set to begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Southeast.
