ALMA, Neb. — One woman was killed after a fire broke out in an home here Saturday.
Lois Clifton, 85, was found dead in her residence after the Alma Fire Department was dispatched to a fully engulfed house at about 8 a.m.
Clifton and her son, Kurt Peterson, 57, were both home when the fire broke out. Peterson was removed from the home when emergency responders arrived and was taken to the Harlan County Hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation.
Sixteen firefighters responded to the fire, which was extinguished within an hour. Firefighters were on scene until 2 p.m.
The home was a total loss, with a damage estimate of $60,000.
The fire’s cause was being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
An autopsy on Clifton was to have taken place Sunday.
Two representatives of the American Red Cross provided food, clothing and shelter for Peterson.
