Two men were arrested Monday night in connection with a stolen vehicle and police pursuit in Omaha.
Police said Matthew Arnold, 27, was arrested on suspicion of theft by receiving stolen property, flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, trespassing, obstructing an officer and on two misdemeanor warrants. Police also said James Pilcher, 23, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful occupancy, obstructing an arrest and on felony and misdemeanor warrants.
Police said Arnold and Pilcher stole a vehicle owned by a 64-year-old man around 6:35 p.m. near South 131st and L Streets. Police located the vehicle in the area of Interstate 80 and L Street. The driver accelerated and drove away from officers at a high rate of speed. OPD’s helicopter found the vehicle near 72nd and F Streets. A passenger jumped from the vehicle at 52nd and Hascall Streets, police said, and another passenger left the vehicle at 40th and Frederick Streets.
Police said the men entered a residence in the 40th and Frederick area and started fighting with the residents, a 30-year-old man and a 31 -year-old man. Officers said the driver fled in the vehicle to the 2300 block of South 35th Avenue, where three people were taken into custody.
Police said their investigation found that one of three was not involved in the theft.
