Council Bluffs police were investigating a shooting that occurred early Monday that left a 38-year-old man suffering from a wound that is not life-threatening.

Police said Craig Anson was shot once in the left side of his back about 1:35 a.m. in the 800 block of Second Avenue. Anson was taken to CHI Health Council Bluffs Mercy Hospital by a private vehicle and he was released later Monday morning.

Police said witnesses told them that they heard three to four gunshots and then spotted several unknown men running north toward an apartment complex across from 817 Second Ave.

About 1:45 a.m., police reported to Mercy Hospital after Anson was brought in, and officers said Anson told them that he heard a disturbance outside his residence, investigated the noise and was then shot with a handgun.
