Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office have begun an investigation into the death of a 65-year-old inmate at the county jail.

Robert Basten of Zwingle, Iowa, was found unresponsive about 8 a.m. Wednesday in his cell at the Douglas County Jail, jail officials said.

Omaha Fire Department emergency personnel pronounced Basten dead at the jail.

Officials said Basten was booked May 2 on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest and was being held on $25,000 bail. He also is accused in Dodge County, Neb., of flight to avoid arrest, theft of services and willful reckless driving.
