Fate of Douglas County guards accused of having sex with inmates left to Iowa prosecutors

  • 0

The decision on whether to charge two Douglas County correctional officers accused of having sex with inmates now rests with federal prosecutors in Iowa.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Omaha transferred the case to the southern district of Iowa in Des Moines because it is also prosecuting one of the alleged victims, said Jan Sharp, the assistant U.S. attorney in charge of the general crimes unit.

The two guards — a man and a woman — are accused of acting as lookouts for each other as they had sex with female inmates, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.
