HOLDREGE, Neb. — North Park Assembly of God Church in Holdrege has found a temporary home on Sundays, at least, after the church was destroyed by fire early Tuesday.
The Rev. Brian Steinbach said Sunday services temporarily will be at the YMCA of the Prairie. A decision on Wednesday evening activities has not been made.
Fire crews from Holdrege, Bertrand, Loomis and Funk were called to the church at 3:11 a.m. Tuesday. Steinbach said the sanctuary and east wing of the building were a total loss. The south wing sustained extensive smoke and heat damage.
More assessment of the south wing is needed to determine if that part of the building can be salvaged, Steinbach said. He said the church does carry insurance that will help with rebuilding costs. In the meantime, the church is searching for temporary office space.
“It's just a building,” Steinbach said. “We didn't lose a loved one or a family member or a friend.”
He said the congregation will rebuild and make new memories in a new church.
Steinbach said he had received dozens of calls from area pastors offering facilities, materials and manpower.
