GLENWOOD, Iowa — The Glenwood City Council has fired City Administrator Brian Kissel.
The council voted 4-1 at its Tuesday meeting to terminate Kissel’s contract.
“The council wants to move in a different direction with a different administrator. It boils down to that,” City Attorney Matt Woods said Wednesday. “It was not for any one specific reason.”
At the meeting, the council went into a closed session to “evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered,” according to the night’s agenda.
They voted in open session afterward, with council members Jeremy Rodman, Susan Hirschman, Dan McComb and Jessie Lundvall voting to fire Kissel. Councilman Craig Florian cast the sole no vote.
Florian said an agreement between the council and Kissel bars both sides from discussing the reasons for the firing.
