Police on Monday confirmed the identity of an Omaha attorney who died after an apartment fire Thursday evening near 39th and Dodge Streets.

Firefighters found Martin Cahill, 61, inside his apartment at 125 N. 39th St. shortly after 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Flames were coming from the living room coat closet in Cahill's apartment on the main level, firefighters said.

Cahill was taken in extremely critical condition to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he died shortly before 7 p.m.

No other injuries were reported, and no smoke damage was reported in the five other apartments in the building, a fire official said.
