CEDAR RAPIDS — A mistrial has been declared in the burglary trial of a Cedar Rapids man because the jury foreman failed to show up.

The woman was not present Wednesday, the second day of 52-year-old Darrell Bolden’s trial.

The woman could not be reached by phone, and deputies sent to her address discovered she no longer lives there.

An alternate juror could not be used because Bolden refused to agree to it.

The judge has called a hearing for the woman to explain why she didn’t show up. He’ll decide then whether to hold her in contempt of court.

Prosecutors plan to retry Bolden, but a new trial date hasn’t been set. He faces up to 15 years as a habitual criminal.
