LINCOLN — Authorities have filed first-degree murder charges against a woman and her son who are accused of killing a 68-year-old southern Nebraska woman.
Shelley Casterline, 41, and Andrew Casterline, 23, are both suspected of fatally stabbing Virginia Barone, who was found in her home on Oct. 5 with 22 stab wounds. Her body was partially covered by boards. Barone's son was Shelley Casterline's live-in boyfriend.
An autopsy later showed that Barone had been stabbed twice in the back and 20 times in the chest and stomach.
The Casterlines were arrested the next day in Newton, Iowa, after allegedly mugging a woman in a Walmart parking lot.
