A search by authorities in northeast Nebraska late Thursday and early Friday failed to turn up any wreckage after reports came in of a small-plane crash southeast of O’Neill.

The Holt County Sheriff’s Office said authorities received a report around 8 p.m. Thursday that a plane may have gone down somewhere around the towns of Inman and Page.

Sheriff’s Office deputies, firefighters from O’Neill and Page and Nebraska State Patrol troopers searched the area Thursday night into early Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A medical helicopter, local aircraft and a State Patrol helicopter with night-search capabilities helped in the search. ATVs and other vehicles were used in during ground-search efforts, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The ground search was called off around midnight, authorities said, and the patrol helicopter returned to Lincoln around 2 a.m.

Later Friday morning, authorities returned to the area and resumed the search, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Outside of the initial call Thursday night, the Sheriff’s Office said, no other reports came in about a downed aircraft.

O’Neill is situated about 75 miles northwest of Norfolk on U.S. Highway 275.
