Omaha police gang unit officers arrested two men last week in connection with gun violations.

The officers were conducting operations about 10:15 p.m. July 30 in the area of 48th and Boyd Streets and 40th Street and Paxton Boulevard.

At 48th and Boyd, officers spoke with four men loitering in the area, police said. Sammie Ranson, 22, attempted to flee and was arrested. Ranson had a gun and the weapon had been stolen.

At 40th and Paxton, officers made a traffic stop and they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. The vehicle's occupants were asked to get out, and the front passenger, Jarez Wilson, 23, reached for his waistband and was arrested, police said. He had a stolen firearm.

Police said:

— Ranson, a known gang member, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a stolen firearm, and three warrants.

— Wilson, also a known gang member, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and felony bond review.
