CLEAR LAKE, Iowa — A 30-year-old northern Iowa man scheduled for trial next week in a murder-for-hire case has decided to change his plea.

Alan Cannon is expected to plead guilty at a hearing Monday. He pleaded not guilty in April to two counts of solicitation to commit murder, one count of conspiracy to commit murder and one count of attempted murder.

Cannon's trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Cannon is accused of trying to hire two people in December to kill a teenager who says he sexually assaulted her. A jury in June convicted Cannon of a misdemeanor assault charge and of supplying alcohol in that case. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $500.
