Rain in Omaha area to become spotty tonight, end by morning

Rain is likely to become spottier as it continues into the evening, then taper off by morning, according to Dave Fobert, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Valley.

As of 2 p.m., Omaha had received 0.65 inches of rain, according to the weather service. Fobert said an additional one-fourth to one-half inch might fall.

Across much of western and northern Nebraska, snow was falling this afternoon, according to Andy Mussoline, meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc., The World-Herald's private weather consultant.

For the most part, 1 to 2 inches of accumulation had been reported from the North Platte area and to the northeast toward South Dakota and Minnesota, Mussoline said. Several more inches are possible.

South-central Nebraska has seen the heaviest precipitation, about 1.5 inches of rain, according to the weather service.
