OTTUMWA — A 26-year-old man convicted of robbing and killing the manager of an adult theater in Ottumwa will be sentenced this week.

Bruce Darnell Pollard Jr. will be sentenced Thursday morning. He was convicted last month of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the March 2012 killing of Kenneth McDaniel, 70.

In Iowa, first-degree murder requires a sentence of life in prison.

Pollard acknowledged killing McDaniel, hitting him in the head with a pry bar and choking him. He then stole cash and pornography.
