A 74-year-old woman died after she was struck by a car turning onto Nebraska Highway 15 in Seward, police said.

Sophia Medrano was struck around 4 p.m. Monday by a 2002 Buick LeSabre that turned south onto the highway from Seward Street, Seward Police Chief Brian Peters said.

The Buick was driven by Joyce Meyers, 93, of Seward.

Medrano first was taken to Seward's Memorial Hospital before she was transferred by helicopter to Bryan Medical Center's west hospital campus.

Peters said the Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the incident.
