CLEAR LAKE, Iowa — A 17-year-old driver has been rescued from his car after it broke through ice on Clear Lake in northern Iowa.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Department says the boy was driving on the ice about 200 yards east of the McIntosh Woods State Park channel when his Volkswagen Passat began to break through.

He used his cellphone to call for help around 9:45 p.m. Thursday. Venture Fire Department firefighters went out on the ice and helped him get out of his partially submerged car.

The boy wasn't hurt. His name hasn't been released.

The sheriff's department says the car will be recovered on Friday.
