FUNK, Neb. — A woman suffered minor burns and a child escaped injury when their vehicle hit a gas meter and then hit a building in Funk.

The resulting fire destroyed the vehicle and the building.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 6/34 and Main Street in Funk about 2 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Phelps County Sheriff's Office, Trish Baethge, 25, of Houston was westbound on the highway when she tried to pass another vehicle pulling a camper in the outside lane. Baethge said the camper began to swerve into her lane. She veered off the highway into the grass and then crashed into the Erickson Building.

Baethge suffered minor burns to one leg and was taken to Phelps Memorial Health Center. A 2-year-old child in the vehicle was unhurt.
