WAPELLO — City officials in Wapello understand the enthusiasm generated at high school football games and have decided to exempt the local high school football field from following the city’s noise ordinance.
At its meeting this week, the City Council agreed to allow the stadium to be noisy but asked school officials to try to keep it down.
Officials said recent tests during two home football games showed sound levels exceeding the city’s noise ordinance.
Superintendent Mike Peterson said he’s assured the council the school is trying to be a good neighbor. He’s told announcers and coaches to keep pre-game music and other sounds coming from the field lower. — AP
