Peters, Irene Dunnell Feb 2, 1923 - Oct 17, 2015 Council Bluffs, IA. Irene Dunnell Peters passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015. Born on February 2, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN, she moved to Omaha in 1933, graduating from Benson High School and the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Irene was a Mechanical Engineer/ Draftsman for Union Pacific Railroad until she married John Peters in 1947. She had a pilot's license, knew how to sail, was a gifted artist, an avid bridge player, a devoted friend, and the consummate prankster. Irene was a past Vestry member and Alter Guild Directress at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir and was Lay Reader. She was also past Chairman of the Christian Women's Club. Irene was active in her community, having served as: Republican Precinct Committeewoman; Heart Fund Captain; Cubs Scout Den Mother; Chairman of the Teen Center Board; a volunteer at Mercy Hospital's Pediatric Ward; Panhellenic Board member; Joslyn's Women's Board; United Fund Special Gifts volunteer; Dodge House volunteer; and Bloomer School 2nd Grade Reading Program volunteer. Irene was preceded in death by her husband John. Survived by sister, Mary Dunnell Peters; sons, Scott (Jane), John (Sue), and Jim (Kathy); daughter, Cory Peters; granddaughter Claire Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 12Noon on Wednesday, October 21, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Council Bluffs. Help us CELEBRATE Irene's Life with a Cocktail Gathering from 2-8pm at the home of Scott and Jane Peters, 241 E. Graham, Council Bluffs.
