The Trojan girls held off Waverly 43-34 to win the District B-1 title and move to state. Platteview is the lone unbeaten team in the state at 24-0.
Highlights: A strong fourth quarter allowed the Trojans to pull away from the Vikings. Waverly held a 25-24 lead after three quarters but Platteview's Sabrina Starks hit a 3-pointer to start the fourth, leading to a 19-point quarter for Platteview.
After Waverly knotted it up at 29-all, the Trojans rattled off 11 of the game's next 13 points to take control of the contest. Payton Brotzki and Colby Duvel scored 10 of those 11 points for the Trojans.
The Vikings dominated the glass in the first half to take a 20-18 lead at halftime. Waverly pulled down 15 offensive rebounds that led to 13 second-chance points.
After scoring seven points in the second and six in the third, the Trojans were due for their high-scoring fourth quarter.
The Trojans will be the Class B No. 1 seed at state, which starts Thursday in Lincoln.
Top performers: Brotzki scored a game-high 20 points with eight coming in the fourth quarter. Duvel added 11 points and Sabrina Starks gave Platteview a spark with eight points.
From the coach: “We knew we had the No. 1 seed sewn up but we weren’t going to take anything for granted. We had 24-0 in our sights and that gave us the school record for most wins.”
