Bearcats first, Lopers 12th in MIAA polls

Northwest Missouri State was picked first and the University of Nebraska at Kearney 12th in both the MIAA coaches and media preseason polls released Monday.

Last fall, the Lopers posted a 3-8 (2-8 MIAA) record. Coach Darrell Morris returns 10 starters, including All-MIAA picks Matt Berry (receiver/returns), Cole Manhart (left tackle) and Pete Trausch (right tackle).

In the coaches poll, UNK picked up 51 points to come in ahead of Southwest Baptist (30) and Lincoln (14). Defending champion Missouri Western State and Northwest Missouri State tied for first, each recording 159 points and six first-place votes.

The media poll has UNK with 96 points, well ahead of SBU (52) and LU (29). Northwest is picked to win with 300 points and 10 first-place votes.

UNK and Northwest open practice on Aug. 15.
