CINCINNATI — Keeley Davis had a match-high 14 kills to lead No. 14 Creighton to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-14 sweep over Xavier on Saturday afternoon.
Jaela Zimmerman added 10 kills and 10 digs, while Madelyn Cole had 36 assists for the Bluejays, who improved to 14-1 in Big East play with three matches left.
Creighton hit .254 as a team and held Xavier to .018. No one had more than four kills for the Musketeers.
“Xavier runs such a fast offense it took us a little while to get adjusted, but once we did I thought our blocking impacted them,” Creighton coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth said in a release. “We had good offensive parity.”
Creighton trailed 9-7 in the first set before going on a 9-2 run. Xavier pulled within 20-19, but a Megan Ballenger kill and a Zimmerman ace put CU back in control. Davis had three kills to end the set.
A 4-0 run gave Creighton a 12-9 lead in the second set. The only time CU trailed after that was 1-0 in the third set.
Creighton’s Annika Welty returned to the court for the first time since August and finished with four kills.
“Annika got cleared on Wednesday and she’s been getting some reps in practice, and I thought she did a great job making an impact,” Booth said.
Creighton will travel to Indianapolis to face Butler at noon Sunday.
